- Archbishop Sentamu Academy was opened in the existing buildings of Archbishop Thurstan Church of England School in September 2008.
- In 2011, the Academy moved to brand new premises at Preston Road.
- Number of students on roll in 2008 = 900
- Number of students on roll in 2011 = 1550 (including 200 post-16 students)
- ASA specialisms are:

- The Academy’s motto is: Aspire, Serve, Achieve
- The Sponsor of the Academy is the Diocese of York (and the Academy is named after the Archbishop of York, the Most Reverend and Rt Hon Dr John Sentamu).
- Funding for the new building is provided through the BSF Project and Hull City Council, who have as a result of a strategic plan to transform learning in the City, secured a £400M investment (funded via the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the City Council), capable of rebuilding or remodelling all secondary and special schools in Hull.
- The Academy has a strong Christian ethos and welcomes students from all cultures, religions, backgrounds and abilities.
- The principal is Andrew Chubb, who took up the post in September 2008.
- The vision for the Academy is that it should educate and equip students to become major contributors to, leaders in and valued ambassadors of East Hull and the wider community as they progress through life.
