Year 7 African experience

As part of the International Ethos of the Academy – In June Year 7 took part in an ‘Africa Day’ experience.

Visitors to the school taught students about Nigeria, Ghana and Sierra Leone. The students participated in African dance, drumming and mask-making workshops.

Students and staff all commented on what a fantastic day it was and that they had learned a lot about various countries within the African continent. Kieran said ‘It was great! I liked the bounce in African dance. I learned how to drum properly with the palm of my hand. I learned about how Africa is a continent, the second largest in the world!’ Lucy said ‘The facts they told us were interesting. I enjoyed the drumming because it showed me more about their culture.
